This artwork was inspired by national geographic's description of Ancient Angkor Wat in Cambodia. I particularly liked the idea of seeing a civilization so removed from your own for the very first time, must of been like an alien world, which is what 16th century Portuguese merchants went through.
I wanted to concentrate on light and distance in this piece, especially how light reflects through canopy. I liked the idea of doing a sort of vignette with the dark trees wrapping round the frame.
I definitely need to work on the richness of the greens, they are too flat and the feeling of distance suffers, I also need to work on getting a slightly less digital feel to my paintings
