Concept A : inital sketch of cave background, using the same consistent style from the games earlier artworks. this ended up feeling a little flat with not much depth

Concept B: the sketch underneath the game platfroms and UI to test how it looks in game. The issues with the previous concept were still present although the beams of rock looked nice.

Concept B: this was an idea to add some lighting to the cave as well as adding a little bit of depth

Final idea: after not liking the look of the intial concept I painted a new version with an emphasis on depth, also the addition of big boulders which I felt made the area feel more dangerous for the palyer.
